Punjab Government is committed to resolve energy problem-Tanvir Aslam Malik August 05, 2013

Punjab Government is committed to resolve energy crisis and facilitate smooth growth of business and industrial activities in the province, said Tanvir Aslam Malik, Provincial Minister for Housing Urban Development and Public Health Engineering while addressing an Iftar dinner hosted by Zafar Bakhtawari, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry at a local hotel.
 
Presidents of Chakwal, Jhelum and Attock Chambers of Commerce & Industry, large number of business community and some prominent media personalities attended the dinner.
 
Tanvir Aslam Malik said the Chief Minister Punjab has decided to set up a small energy secretariat for ensuring investment in energy projects, provision of facilities to the investors and rapid implementation on the projects so that business community could be facilitated in expansion of trade and economic activities.
 
He said energy crisis has left serious negative impact on trade and industrial activities and the government is taking all possible measures on war footing for resolving this challenging problem. He assured the businessmen that government is quite serious in addressing their problems and they should support the government in its efforts aimed at creating an enabling environment for the growth of investment, business, industry and exports.
 
Speaking at the occasion, Zafar Bakhtawari, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry said that Punjab Government should allot plots to Chekwal, Jhelum and Attock Chambers of Commerce & Industry so that they could construct their own buildings and play more effective role in serve the interests of trade and industry in their respective areas.
 
He lauded the efforts of Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for luring Chinese investment in energy sector and said that signing of MoU with Norinco International of China for setting up 300 MW solar power plant in Cholistan is a positive development to reduce energy shortage. 
 
He said Pakistan is endowed with tremendous potential of generating cheap energy through coal and hydel sources and government should make all-out efforts to exploit these untapped sources of energy. Full exploitation of these sources can significantly bring down the electricity cost resulting into low cost of doing business and fast industrialization.
 
Maj. Tahir Iqbal MPA, Lf.Gen (Retd) Abdul Qayyum, former Governor Ameer Tulistan Janjua, Sahibzada Abdul Qudus President Chakwal Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Muhammad Zaheer President Jhelum Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Tariq Sadiq also spoke on the occasion and provided their useful input for addressing the problems of business community.
