Punjab Government to set up more industries-Ch. Muhammad Shafiq August 07, 2013
Meeting outside ICCI

In order to strengthen the national economy, steps will be taken on a war footing to set up industries across the Punjab. The industrialists throughout the province would be encouraged and the foreign investors would be provided opportunities to invest in the country to boost the economy.

These views were expressed by Chaudhry Muhammad Shafiq, Punjab Minister for Industries, Commerce and Investment while talking to a delegation of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry that called on him led by its President Zafar Bakhtawari. Munawar Mughal former President ICCI and Baber Chaudhry Chairman ICCI Protocol Committee were also part of delegation.

The provincial minister said all available resources would be utilized for completion of the mega projects in order to provide the basic facilities at the people’s doorsteps. He pledged to serve the people in a better way and will take practical steps for establishment of industries in the province.

He said all options are being explored to provide uninterrupted power supply to the industry so that industry could grow smoothly and contribute to creating more jobs. He said the federal as well as Punjab governments were focusing on the alternate energy resources including solar, biomass, biogas and wind in addition to main electricity generation components of hydel and thermal.

He said the Punjab government is in constant liaison with the electricity generation companies of China, Australia, Japan, Germany and other local and foreign investors for joint ventures to improve the energy supply situation especially to the industry in an effort to keep its wheel moving. He assured the ICCI delegation that their proposals would be given serious consideration for implementation.

Speaking at the occasion, Zafar Bakhtawari, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry said that ICCI in collaboration with Chakwal Chamber of Commerce & Industry plans to establish an industrial estate in District Chakwal and demanded that Punjab Government should extend its support for this important project. Establishment of industrial estate in Chakwal would promote industrialization, investment and create plenty of jobs in that region, he added.

He said Punjab Government should provide land to Chakwal, Jhelum and Attock Chambers of Commerce & Industry so that they could construct their own buildings and play more effective role in promoting trade and industrial activities.

Zafar Bakhtawari appreciated the Punjab Government’s initiatives to overcome energy problem and hoped that with the improvement in energy situation, all sectors of economy will grow up to their potential leading to reduction in unemployment and poverty. He said ICCI would fully support all measures of the government aimed at steering the country out of difficult phase so that with joint efforts, we could put the economy on sustainable growth trajectory.
