Traders reject Parking fee and demand for urgent removal of Chairman CDA and DMA November 12, 2013
Meeting at ICCI
Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) called a meeting of traders leaders of Islamabad’s markets to discuss one point agenda of forceful imposition of Rs.20/hour as parking fee in markets and adopt a future course of action against this new tax, which would discourage consumers from visiting markets and badly affect the business activities.
Munawar Mughal former President ICCI, Khalid Chaudhry Acting President ICCI, Ajmal Baloch Organizing Secretary Traders Action Committee, Sarfraz Mughal President Super Market, , Ejaz Abbasi President Jinnah Super Market,  Ch. Waqas Gujar President G-11 Markaz, Amanullah Cheema Secretary General F-10 Markaz, Nadeem Mansoor President Blue Area, Haji Nisar Langa President G-9/4, Tahir Ayub Secretary General  I-11/4, Akhlaq Abbasi President G-9 Markaz, Aslam Khan Secretary General G-10/1, Yassar Jamil Abbasi President I-8 Markaz, Sardar Anwar Secretary General G-10 Markaz, Mian Khalid President I-9 Markaz, Ch. Saeed President G-8/1 I&T Center, Aziz ur Rehman President Kokha Association etc. addressed the gathering.
The meeting unanimously rejected the forceful levy of Rs. 20/hour as parking fee in markets and vowed that they would never allow this totally unjustified new tax at any cost. They also unanimously demanded the urgent removal of Chairman CDA and Director Municipal Administration CDA as both were working to pit the traders against the government. A 10 members committee was also constituted to negotiate this issue with CDA and the local administration.
The meeting also decided that if parking fee was not withdrawn immediately, they would go for 2 hours symbolic strike daily and ultimately call for complete shutter down in Islamabad as a last option to protect their business interests. The traders termed CDA as the most corrupt institution and said that instead of developing Islamabad as a modern city, it was bent upon imposing new taxes on traders, which was totally unjustified.
All the traders’ leaders agreed that they would work under the umbrella of ICCI for their rights and would follow its instructions for any future line of action. They said by giving the job of collection of parking fee to contactors, CDA was promoting contractors mafia and traders would foil all such efforts of the CDA.
They also called upon the Government to urgently intervene and issue instructions to CDA to desist from its nefarious designs otherwise the civic body would be responsible for all consequences of this issue.
