Bulgaria keen to enhance sector-specific cooperation with Pakistan October 21, 2015
Meeting at ICCI

Pakistan and Bulgaria have good potential to promote bilateral trade and economic relations and both countries need to identify 5 to 6 potential areas to increase sector-specific cooperation for achieving mutually beneficial outcomes. This was said by H.E. Mr. Roumen Pirontchev, Ambassador, Republic of Bulgaria while exchanging views with business community at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He said Bulgaria was strong in some sectors including solar energy, LED lights, construction, fertilizer, pesticides & insecticides, food processing and other areas and Pakistan could achieve beneficial results for its economy by enhancing cooperation with Bulgaria in these areas. He stressed that Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry should consider taking its trade delegation to Bulgaria to explore business opportunities and assured that his Embassy would facilitate them in visa and assist them in connecting with the relevant counterparts in the Republic of Bulgaria.

In his welcome address, Atif Ikram Sheikh, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that bilateral trade between Pakistan and Bulgaria was negligible despite good potential and emphasized that both countries should focus on promoting connectivity between their private sectors to improve two-way trade. He was of the view that frequent exchange of trade delegations and holding single country exhibitions would help greatly in promoting trade and economic relations up to available potential.

He said many Pakistani products including textiles, fabrics, fruits and vegetables, sea food, Basmati rice, leather products, sports and surgical goods, onyx, marble products etc. have good market potential in Bulgaria as well as in Eastern Europe and Bulgaria should consider providing easy access to Pakistani products to its market for better penetration.

Sheikh Pervez Ahmed Senior Vice President and Sheikh Abdul Waheed, Vice President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that economy of Pakistan has great investment potential for foreign investors and urged that Bulgarian investors should be invited to explore opportunities of investment and joint ventures in Pakistan. He said both countries should make visa procedures easier so that businessmen could easily travel to each other country to identify new areas of mutual collaboration.
