Meeting at ICCI
A delegation of Anjuman Wholesale Fruit Commission Agents, I-11/4, Islamabad visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce led by President Babu Aleem to highlight key issues of their market.
Babu Aleem said that CDA was not giving extension in lease of properties of Fruit and Vegetable market since long due to which traders of the market were facing problems in growth of business activities. He said construction of an additional storey was direly needed in the market to set up offices as well as to accommodate labor and farmers coming from far off areas, but CDA was not allowing its construction. He said that adjacent sectors of this market were already allowed to construct several storey buildings, but depriving fruit market of second storey was unjustified.
He said that Islamabad Fruit & Sabzi Mandi was supplying fresh fruits and vegetables to twin cities as well as to KP and Azad Kashmir. He said trade of fruits and vegetables with Afghanistan and India was also being done through this market, but state of development in the market was deplorable.
He said that police used to take forcefully crates of fruits and in case of any resistance, drivers and staff was being picked up creating problems for traders. He said that Chamber should play its role in resolving the highlighted issues.
Addressing the delegation of Anjuman Wholesale Fruit Commission Agents, I-11/4, Islamabad, Khalid Iqbal Malik, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that fruit & vegetable market was playing an important role in meeting basic needs of people and promoting trade from this region, therefore, CDA should pay priority attention to resolving its problems.
