ICCI established Entrepreneurship Development Center (EDC) July 12, 2011
Meeting at ICCI
 
For the youth development and to look after entrepreneurial spirit, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) has always been at the forefront to take initiatives that provide a platform to youth to play an active role in society.

In this context, ICCI has established Entrepreneurship Development Center (EDC) in collaboration with Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) which would provide services to the existing and prospective entrepreneurs and help them in building their capacity on entrepreneurial skills.

Hammad Siddiqui, Senior Program Manager, CIPE formally inaugurated the EDC at Islamabad Chamber. Mahfooz Elahi, President ICCI, Executive Members of Islamabad Chamber and other business leaders were also present on the occasion.

Hammad Siddiqui said that CIPE has been actively engaged with chambers and associations in Pakistan for over 5 year and have supported projects worth approximately US dollar  two hundred thousand. EDC at Islamabad Chamber is one of the key projects that CIPE foresee will promote entrepreneurial culture in Pakistan. He also said that Islamabad Chamber is one of the key reform partners for CIPE since 2007. Under CIPE grant the Chamber had established Young Entrepreneurship Forum which has been an active forum for promotion of young entrepreneurs in the country.

The management of the universities was also very keen to work with ICCI through its EDC and has started meetings to work out a strategy to create strong linkage for entrepreneurship development.

Speaking on the occasion, Mahfooz Elahi, President ICCI said that Islamabad Chamber would further create strong linkages with the universities, with whom MOUs have already been signed for inculcating entrepreneurial sprit in youth, holding business plan competitions and undertaking research activities on micro and small scale projects.  He said that ICCI and CIPE have long term relationships which would develop the culture of entrepreneurship in the region.
 
The main purpose of establishing the EDC was to provide complete business setup guidance and solutions to prospective entrepreneurs, especially youth and deprived economic class. Various training programs for skill development and capacity building in different areas would also be organized at EDC.

Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry has made sure sustainability of project by providing its continued support to help grow businesses and economic activities in the Federal Capital.  The research activities of EDC would also be uploaded on the website of the Chamber, which was updated on daily basis.
