| Board Constituted to Rehabilitate Flood Affectees – Imran Khan |

A board comprising experts of disaster management, rehabilitation and reconstruction fields has been constituted to chalk out a comprehensive game plan for systematic rehabilitation and reconstruction of flood hit areas. The game plan will be announced in the next week.
This was said by Mr.Imran Khan, Chairman, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Center while addressing business community at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
He said the scale of flood catastrophe is so huge that only government cannot handle it and all have to play a part to wriggle out of this natural calamity. He said the board will prepare feasibility studies of flood hit areas for their well-planned reconstruction and rehabilitation. After identification of areas, Overseas Pakistanis, business community and others will be invited to participate in reconstruction work.
He said that the current tax ratio was unviable for the country and underscored the need of developing a fair taxation system to promote a proper tax culture. He said top leadership of the country should become a role model by paying full taxes.
He termed the Overseas Pakistanis as the biggest asset of the country who have the resources and potential to help Pakistan come out of current crisis. He said Expatriate Pakistanis are eager to help the flood affectees, but they need a credible source for channeling their donations in cash and kind.
He warned that the country could plunge into a deep crisis if steps were not taken for early restoration of flood affected people. He said hungry people could become a big threat for elite class. He urged that privileged people should come forward to donate generously for rehabilitation of flood hit families.
He spoke at length about the role of Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital and Namal College in Mianwali. He said SKCH is the only private sector hospital in the world which is providing free treatment to 70-80 percent patient. He said most of the medicines are imported for which people should cooperate by giving maximum donations.
In his welcome address, Mr.Zahid Maqbool, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry lauded the efforts of Imran Khan for collecting donations for flood affectees.
He said Shaukat Khan Cancer Hospital is rendering useful services by providing free treatment to poor people. He also appreciated Mr.Imran Khan for establishing a state of the art Namal College in Mianwali, which is a great initiative to provide quality education to our youth.
He said ICCI is planning the construction of 100 mud houses in Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa for flood affectees and funds are being collected from members to undertake this project.
He said ICCI had also established a 200 beds hospital in the wake of earthquake 2005 for injured persons and will continue to play its positive role by participating in social welfare activities.
