Pakistan Railways in collaboration with Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry established a Dry Port at Margalla Railway Station, H-9 Sector Islamabad, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister of Pakistan in March 2006. Previously a Dry Port was operating at Rawalpindi at an area of 4.5 acres, whereas Islamabad Chamber Port was established 13 acres piece of land. The Dry Port is not only serving the business community of Islamabad and Rawalpindi but is also benefiting the businessmen of Hattar, Taxila, Akora Khattak and Azad Kashmir. The port is easily accessible through rail and road and equipped with all the modern facilities like stuffing / de-stuffing of containers. It has the facility of direct transmission of data from Sea ports to Dry Port, Internet and fax. Islamabad Dry Port has even before its formal inauguration handled the relief cargo for the earthquake victims and has thus helped the country in overcoming the catastrophe that befell us in October 2005. Almost all the relief cargo routed through rail has been handled at this Dry Port.
